A dedicated 42-km cycle path circling the lake, mostly flat and car-free. Bike rental at Roul'ma Poule near the train station for €15-25/day. Allow 3-4 hours with stops for swimming and photos. E-bikes available.

Lake Annecy looks calm but has cold undercurrents below 3 m. Stay within marked swimming zones. Afternoon winds (the 'bise') can pick up suddenly — paddleboarders should check forecasts. Lifeguards staff Plage d'Albigny July-August only.
Travel GuidesA turquoise Alpine lake, a 42km car-free cycling path, and tandem paragliding from 1,150 meters. Annecy is the outdoor playground France doesn't advertise enough.
Travel GuidesTwo gorgeous lake towns, two very different countries, two wildly different price tags. Here's how to decide.
StoriesMarie has lived in Annecy for a decade. She's tired of tourists ordering fondue in August, parking on the lake road, and skipping the gorge.
