Diani's local population is largely Muslim. Cover shoulders and knees when visiting Ukunda town or local markets. During Ramadan, avoid eating or drinking in public during daylight hours in non-tourist areas. Greet locals with 'Jambo' (hello) or 'Habari' (how are you) — a small gesture that goes far.
