US, EU, UK, Australian, and many other passport holders get visa-free entry for 30-90 days (varies by nationality). No fee, no advance application — just show up. Qatar also offers a free 96-hour transit visa for Qatar Airways passengers. Your passport must be valid for 6+ months.
Alcohol is only available at licensed hotel restaurants and bars — no off-license shops. Public drunkenness is a criminal offense. Dress modestly in public spaces (cover shoulders and knees), especially at Souq Waqif and mosques. Swimwear is fine at hotel pools and beaches. Qatar is more liberal than Saudi Arabia but more conservative than Dubai.
Qatar's weekend is Friday-Saturday (not Saturday-Sunday). Many attractions have reduced Friday hours (often opening at 1:30PM after noon prayers). Souq Waqif is busiest on Thursday and Friday evenings. Banks and government offices close Thursday afternoon through Friday. Plan your museum visits for Saturday-Thursday mornings.

Qatar is very safe but photography laws are strict. Never photograph government buildings, military installations, or construction workers (labor rights sensitivity). Always ask permission before photographing Qatari nationals, especially women. Photos at tourist sites (MIA, Souq Waqif, The Pearl) are fine. Violation can result in confiscation of your device or police questioning.
SeasonalSummer in Qatar hits 50 degrees Celsius. Winter is 22 degrees with blue skies and outdoor everything. The timing isn't optional.
