Free entry to all — tip the bands ($5-10 per set, expected). Top venues: Tootsie's Orchid Lounge, Robert's Western World, and The Stage. Drinks $6-12. Busiest Thursday-Saturday nights. Allow an entire evening.

Combo tickets include Historic RCA Studio B tour ($42) where Elvis, Dolly, and Roy Orbison recorded. Allow 2-3 hours for the museum, plus 1 hour for Studio B.

Nashville's signature dish: cayenne-crusted fried chicken in heat levels from 'mild' to 'shut the cluck up.' Prince's Hot Chicken Shack (the original since 1945): quarter chicken plate $8-12. Hattie B's is the tourist-friendly option (30-60 min waits). Bolton's and 400 Degrees are local favorites. Order with white bread and pickles — they cut the heat. Do NOT touch your eyes afterward.

A full-scale replica of the Athenian Parthenon, built in 1897, housing a 42-foot gold-leaf Athena statue — the tallest indoor sculpture in the Western hemisphere. Entry: $10 adults. Open Tue-Sat 9AM-4:30PM, Sun 12:30-4:30PM. The surrounding Centennial Park is free with walking trails and a lake. 2 miles from Broadway. Allow 1-2 hours.

An intimate 90-seat listening room where songwriters perform their own hits in the round. This is where Garth Brooks and Taylor Swift were discovered. Tickets: $15-25 (sold online, lottery system for popular shows). No talking during performances — strictly enforced. Shows at 6PM and 9PM. Book 2+ weeks ahead at bluebirdcafe.com. An unforgettable experience.

International visitors need a valid US visa or ESTA (Visa Waiver Program countries, $21). Apply at esta.cbp.dhs.gov at least 72 hours before travel. BNA airport has direct flights from most major US cities plus London (BritishAirways). The airport has a live music stage in the terminal — Nashville starts at the gate.
Lower Broadway and downtown are walkable (about 10 blocks). For The Gulch, 12South, East Nashville, and the Opry: use Uber/Lyft ($8-15 per ride). WeGo buses cover the city ($2 single ride). No subway or light rail system. Renting a car is useful for day trips (Jack Daniel's Distillery in Lynchburg is 75 miles south). Pedal taverns (party bikes) are everywhere on Broadway — book ahead ($30-40/seat).
Nashville's best value: free live music. Every honky-tonk on Broadway has free entry — just buy drinks and tip bands. The Ryman Auditorium courtyard has free performances. Live on the Green festival (August-September) is free. Radio shows at the Grand Ole Opry and WSM studios sometimes have free tickets. Budget $100-150/day for comfortable travel including dining and drinks.
Nashville has become America's top bachelorette party destination. The biggest gotcha for non-party travelers: Broadway is extremely rowdy Thursday-Saturday nights with pedal taverns and party buses. For a more local experience, head to East Nashville (Five Points area) for craft cocktail bars and indie venues, or The Gulch for upscale dining away from the chaos.
Nashville's music scene extends far beyond country. Jack White's Third Man Records (tours $10) is a must for rock fans. The National Museum of African American Music ($25) covers gospel, blues, jazz, R&B, and hip-hop. Printer's Alley has blues and jazz clubs. East Nashville's The Basement hosts indie and alternative acts. Nashville is truly 'Music City' — all genres.
Lower Broadway is well-policed and generally safe but gets chaotic late at night. Watch for pickpockets in crowded bars. Don't leave drinks unattended. Uber/Lyft pickup: use the designated zone on 2nd Avenue to avoid congestion. Severe spring storms (March-May) are common — download a weather alert app. Tennessee allows open carry of firearms — don't be alarmed seeing them.
Travel GuidesCountry honky-tonks versus live music capital — two cities built on sound, but the experiences couldn't be more different.
Travel GuidesThe Parthenon, East Nashville brunch culture, and a full-scale recording studio tour — Nashville's best experiences aren't on the neon strip.
