Swimming is prohibited due to dangerous currents. Often combined with Angel Billabong next door. Located on the west coast, 30 minutes from Kelingking by motorbike.
A stunning natural infinity pool carved into the cliff edge where turquoise water fills a rock formation at low tide. Swimming possible at low tide only — at high tide, waves crash dangerously over the rocks. Several tourists have been swept away — check conditions carefully. Free entry. Adjacent to Broken Beach. Best at mid-morning low tide.

Strong currents — life jackets provided. Even snorkelers can see mantas from the surface. The deeper dive sites require certification. Allow 3-4 hours.
A secluded beach on the east coast accessed by a steep staircase of 300+ steps. Dramatic rock formations rise from turquoise water. Entry IDR 10,000 (~$0.65). Much less crowded than the west coast sites. A small cliff-edge viewpoint and tree house photo spot is at the top. Allow 2-3 hours including the climb back up.
A cliff-edge viewpoint near Atuh Beach offering views of dramatic rock pinnacles jutting from the sea. Free with Atuh Beach entry. The viewpoint platform is small and can feel precarious — not for those with vertigo. Best in morning light. Often combined with Atuh Beach and Diamond Beach in a day.

Nusa Penida is part of Bali province, so no separate visa is needed. Most nationalities get a 30-day visa on arrival for IDR 500,000 (~$32) at Ngurah Rai Airport. The e-VOA can be purchased online at molina.imigrasi.go.id before arrival to skip airport queues.
Fast boats from Sanur Harbor to Nusa Penida take 30-45 minutes, IDR 150,000-300,000 one-way (~$10-19). Multiple operators (Angel Billabong, Maruti Express, Crown Fast Cruise). Book online or at the harbor. First boats depart 7AM; last return around 4:30PM. Luggage gets wet — use waterproof bags. Boats can be rough in high seas.
Roads on Nusa Penida are notoriously bad — steep, unpaved, and full of potholes. Many tourists crash. If you're not an experienced motorbike rider, hire a driver/car for the day (IDR 500,000-700,000, ~$32-45). Scooter rental IDR 75,000-100,000/day. Always wear a helmet, long pants, and closed shoes. Phone GPS is essential.
Multiple tourists have died falling from unfenced cliff edges at Kelingking, Broken Beach, and Angel Billabong. Stay well back from edges, especially when taking photos. The descent to Kelingking Beach is extremely steep and the trail erodes regularly. Angel Billabong waves can sweep people off rocks without warning at high tide. Never swim there unless it's confirmed low tide.
Most visitors do a day trip from Bali, but staying 2 nights lets you see both the west coast (Kelingking, Broken Beach) and east coast (Atuh, Diamond Beach) without rushing. Budget guesthouses from IDR 200,000/night (~$13). Restaurants are limited — most travelers eat at their accommodation. Bring cash — very few ATMs on the island.
Nusa Penida has several sacred Balinese Hindu temples. Cover shoulders and knees if visiting. The island is considered spiritually significant — locals perform regular ceremonies that may temporarily block roads. Pura Goa Giri Putri temple inside a cave is worth visiting. Remove shoes and wear a sarong (available to borrow at the entrance).
Travel GuidesForget the Instagram viewpoints. Nusa Penida's real draw is the raw, unpolished adventure underneath those cliffs.
