The Bay of Bengal cyclone season peaks in November-December. Pondicherry has been hit by major cyclones (Thane in 2011, Vardah in 2016). If traveling during this period, monitor weather updates, have flexible bookings, and follow local authority warnings. The promenade and beaches close during storms.
Auroville residents are sensitive about being treated as a theme park. Don't photograph people without permission, respect the meditation spaces, and avoid haggling at community shops (fixed prices support the township). The Matrimandir is a meditation space, not a selfie spot — silence is expected.
