Visit Gandan Monastery. Mongolia's largest functioning Buddhist monastery in UB. The 26m gilded Avalokiteshvara statue is breathtaking. Monks chant 9-11AM daily. Entry: 10,000 MNT.

Camp at the Gobi Desert's singing dunes. The Khongoryn Els dunes in the Gobi reach 200m high and produce a low humming sound in the wind. Climbing them at sunset and sliding back down is pure joy. Accessible by flight to Dalanzadgad (2 hours) or 2-day overland from UB. Allow 4-6 days for a Gobi circuit.

See wild Przewalski's horses at Khustain Nuruu. The world's last truly wild horses, brought back from extinction. 100km from UB (2-hour drive). Entry: 8,000 MNT. Best at dawn or dusk when the horses are active.

Experience a Mongolian throat singing performance. Khoomei — a technique where a singer produces two simultaneous pitches. The Tumen Ekh Ensemble in UB performs nightly (25,000 MNT, 1 hour). The sound is eerie, primal, and unlike anything else in world music.
