The Rif Mountains region is Morocco's primary cannabis-growing area. You will be offered kif (marijuana) frequently — politely decline and keep walking. Unlicensed guides may also approach you at bus stations; an official guide costs ~300-400 MAD for a half-day.
StoriesI turned left at the blue wall. Then right at the blue wall. Then left at another blue wall. Three hours later, I was hopelessly, wonderfully lost in Morocco's most photogenic city.
SeasonalWildflowers in the Rif Mountains, freshly painted blue walls, and barely a tour bus in sight. Spring in Chefchaouen is the sweet spot most visitors miss.
TipsThe blue walls are just the beginning. Here's everything I learned after three trips to Morocco's most photographed town.
