Momos (dumplings) are the local staple — try them steamed, fried, and in soup at Kunga Restaurant (INR 60-120). Dress in layers — temperatures swing 10-15°C between morning and afternoon.
Monsoon (Jun-Sep) brings heavy rain, landslides, and road closures — avoid this period. Political bandhs (strikes) occasionally shut down transport — check local news before traveling. Mountain weather changes rapidly; carry rain gear even in 'dry' season. Fog can ground Bagdogra flights — keep a buffer day in your itinerary.
TipsTiger Hill timing, tea-buying strategy, what to do when the fog won't lift, and why you should never show a monkey your banana — learned the hard way.
