Tsitsikamma National Park (Storms River Mouth)
The dramatic heart of the Garden Route — rugged cliffs where the Storms River meets a churning ocean, crossed by a swaying suspension bridge over the river mouth (a short, easy walk from the rest camp). Park entry ~$12-15 (SANParks conservation fee). Hike a stretch of the famous Otter Trail, kayak the gorge, or spot dolphins from the shore. Allow half a day. One of the most photogenic coastlines in the country.
Bloukrans Bungee Jump
The world's highest commercial bridge bungee — a heart-stopping 216m plunge off the Bloukrans Bridge near Nature's Valley. A jump costs roughly 1,200-1,500 ZAR (~$65-80); watching from the bridge walkway is cheaper. Even non-jumpers can do the 'Flying Fox' zipline or bridge tour. Operated by Face Adrenalin with a strong safety record. Book ahead in peak season; the setting over the forested gorge is spectacular in itself.
Knysna Heads & Lagoon
The scenic centerpiece of Knysna — two towering sandstone cliffs guarding a narrow, treacherous channel where the lagoon meets the sea. Drive up to the Eastern Head viewpoint (free) for sweeping views, take a lagoon cruise, or eat fresh Knysna oysters on the waterfront. The channel is one of the most dangerous boat passages in South Africa, so admire it from land or a licensed cruise. A relaxed base for exploring the central route.
Robberg Nature Reserve (Plettenberg Bay)
A stunning rocky peninsula near Plett with a circular clifftop hike (the full loop is ~9km, ~4 hours, with shorter options) past a Cape fur seal colony, turquoise coves, and an ancient archaeological cave. Entry ~50-80 ZAR. Whales and dolphins are often visible offshore in season. Wear proper shoes — parts involve rock scrambling and a sandy isthmus. One of the best coastal walks in South Africa.
Cango Caves (Oudtshoorn)
A short detour inland over the Outeniqua Pass to one of the world's great show caves — vast limestone chambers of dripstone formations millions of years in the making. A Standard Tour (~150-200 ZAR, ~1 hour) is easy for all; the Adventure Tour squeezes through tight tunnels for the brave. Combine with Oudtshoorn's ostrich farms and the Swartberg Pass. Wilderness Lakes & Beaches
A tranquil village of long empty beaches, lagoons, and rivers threaded through indigenous forest — ideal for canoeing to the Kingfisher Trail waterfall, paragliding off the Map of Africa viewpoint, or simply walking the wide sands.
