A 125m curved pedestrian bridge suspended 660m above sea level between two mountain peaks, accessed via the Langkawi SkyCab cable car. Cable car + Sky Bridge combo: 75 MYR adults (~$16). Open 9:30AM-7PM (last entry 6:30PM, closed for maintenance some Tuesdays). The 15-minute cable car ride to the top station offers stunning views of the Andaman Sea. Clear mornings are best — clouds obscure views by afternoon. Allow 2-3 hours including queues.

A UNESCO Global Geopark with limestone karst formations, mangrove forests, caves, and a floating fish farm. Boat tours (150-250 MYR per boat for 3-4 hours) navigate through narrow mangrove channels where you spot monitor lizards, kingfishers, and brahminy kites. Includes stops at a bat cave, crocodile cave, and fish feeding. Morning tours are best for wildlife. The eagle feeding (brahminy kites swooping for fish) is the highlight.

Langkawi's most popular beach — a 2km stretch of white sand with clear water, jet ski rentals (80 MYR/15 min), parasailing (80 MYR), and beachfront bars. The Underwater World aquarium (43 MYR) and duty-free shopping zone are both here. Sunsets from the beach bars (a cocktail runs 15-25 MYR duty-free) are gorgeous. Night market rotates through the island — Thursday night it's near Cenang. Best swimming at the north end away from water sports.

A half-day boat tour (35-50 MYR per person) visiting three islands: Pulau Dayang Bunting (Pregnant Maiden Island with a freshwater lake for swimming, 6 MYR entry), Pulau Singa Besar (eagle feeding spot), and Pulau Beras Basah (white sand beach for snorkeling). Tours depart at 9:30AM and 2:30PM from Cenang jetty. Bring swimwear, sunscreen, and a waterproof bag. The lake swim on Dayang Bunting is the highlight.

A pristine, less-crowded beach on the northeast coast with fine white sand, calm turquoise water, and dramatic limestone cliffs. Quieter than Cenang — mostly resort guests and in-the-know visitors. No entry fee to the public section. At low tide, you can walk to a small island offshore. The Four Seasons resort is here but the public beach is free. 30 minutes from Cenang by car. Best for couples seeking tranquility.

The entire island is a duty-free zone — alcohol (beer from 3.50 MYR / ~$0.75 per can), chocolate (Langkawi is famous for cheap imported chocolate), cigarettes, and cosmetics are significantly cheaper than mainland Malaysia. The main shopping zone is along Pantai Cenang and at Kuah town's Jetty Point complex. Stock up on wine and spirits — they're 50-70% cheaper than Kuala Lumpur. Departure allowance: 1 liter of alcohol per adult.

US, UK, EU, and most Asian passport holders get 90-day visa-free entry to Malaysia. Indian passport holders need a Malaysia eVISA or can use the eNTRI facility for 15-day stays (free, apply online). Langkawi has its own immigration checkpoint — you clear immigration at the airport or ferry terminal on arrival.
Langkawi has almost no public transport. Rent a car (100-150 MYR/day) from the airport or Cenang — international license accepted. Grab works but availability is limited. Taxis exist but are unmetered — agree on price first. A scooter costs 35-50 MYR/day. The island is compact (30km across) — you can reach any point in 30-40 minutes. Drive on the left (British system). Roads are well-maintained.

Alcohol is 50-70% cheaper than mainland Malaysia. A beer at a restaurant costs 6-10 MYR vs 15-25 MYR in KL. Local food at hawker stalls runs 5-12 MYR per dish — try nasi kandar, roti canai, and laksa. Budget hotels near Cenang start at 80-120 MYR/night. Overall budget: 150-250 MYR/day ($32-54) for comfortable mid-range travel including car rental.
Langkawi is a conservative Malay-Muslim island despite its tourist character. Cover shoulders and knees when visiting villages and mosques. Topless sunbathing is not acceptable. During Ramadan (dates change yearly), some local restaurants close during daytime hours but tourist areas remain open. Alcohol is widely available in tourist zones but consuming it in public outside restaurants is frowned upon.
Jellyfish season peaks September-November, particularly on the west coast beaches. Box jellyfish have been spotted — vinegar stations are at major beaches. Sandflies (tiny biting midges) are common on beaches around sunrise and sunset — apply strong DEET repellent. The bites cause intensely itchy welts that last days. Sit on elevated beach chairs rather than directly on sand.
Travel GuidesOne has duty-free beaches and a sky bridge. The other has the best street food in Asia and colonial architecture. Same state, wildly different trips.
TipsThe sky bridge sways more than you'd like. The duty-free prices are genuinely ridiculous. And nobody tells you about the secret beach behind the geo-forest. Here's everything.
