Safety
Timing Is Everything — the Lagoons Come and Go
This is the make-or-break gotcha: the lagoons are rain-fed and seasonal. They fill after the January-June rains and are fullest and most vivid July-September, then shrink and largely dry up by November-December. Visit outside the window and you'll find beautiful but empty sand. Plan your trip around July-September.
Protect Against the Equatorial Sun
You're just south of the equator on blinding white sand with almost no shade and lagoons that reflect the sun. UV is extreme — use reef-safe SPF 50+, a rash guard, hat, and sunglasses, and drink far more water than you think you need. Only swim in lagoons your guide confirms are safe; some deeper ones have soft, silty bottoms.
