The original bus tour visits filming locations including Leopoldskron Palace, the gazebo in Hellbrunn, and the Mondsee wedding church. Tours run daily, 4 hours, from €55/person. Panorama Tours and Fräulein Maria's are the main operators. Book a day ahead in peak season.

Take the cable car to 1,853m for stunning Alpine panoramas stretching into Bavaria. Cable car: €28 round trip. Runs July-October (weather dependent). Several hiking trails at the top from easy to challenging. 25 mins from Salzburg by bus 25. Allow half a day.

The Salzburg Card (€31/24hrs, €40/48hrs, €46/72hrs) includes free public transport, free entry to all major attractions, and the fortress funicular. Pays for itself within 2-3 attractions. Buy at the tourist info office at the train station or Mozartplatz.
Berchtesgaden (Germany) is just 30 mins by bus from Salzburg — take the RVO 840 bus (€5 each way). Visit the Eagle's Nest, Königssee lake, or the Salt Mines. Much cheaper restaurants than Salzburg's old town. Your Schengen visa covers the border crossing.
The Grünmarkt (Green Market) at Universitätsplatz runs Mon-Sat mornings with excellent local cheese, bread, sausages, and strudel at reasonable prices. A full lunch from market stalls costs €6-10 vs. €15-25 at sit-down restaurants nearby.
Austrians eat dinner early (6-8PM). Many restaurants stop serving by 9PM. On Sundays, nearly all shops close (except those in the train station). Restaurants and cafés remain open. Plan your shopping for weekdays.
If hiking the Untersberg or nearby Alps, carry rain gear even on sunny days — Alpine weather shifts within minutes. Check the local weather service (zamg.ac.at) and tell someone your route. Mobile coverage is patchy above the tree line.
